The Winnipeg Jets took care of Patrick Laine the other day and on Saturday, appear to have finalized the last big piece of their restricted free agent puzzle by getting Kyle Connor signed to a seven-year, almost $50 million extension.
Pierre LeBrun noted that the deal wasn’t quite done when it was announced, but is close. Sportsnet, however, reported the deal was done and it didn’t take long for the other confirmations to come rolling in.
The deal will see Connor make $7.14 million per season on average and he’ll be a part of the organization for the foreseeable future. Unlike Laine, Connor wanted a long-term commitment, got it and doesn’t have to worry about another extension until 2027.
One of the most effective, yet least talked-about stars in the NHL, Connor tallied 34 goals and 66 points for the Jets last season with 31 goals and 57 points the season before. He’s a massive piece of the Jets puzzle for the season and will be counted on to produce big offensive numbers for the organization in 2019-20.
More details to come as we have them. But for now, it appears as all the notable restricted free agents have officially come to terms with their teams, just prior to the start of the NHL regular season.
