Heartbreaking News Strikes Jets’ Head Coach Rick Bowness

The Winnipeg Jets have shared concerning news regarding their head coach, Rick Bowness and his wife.

In an unfortunate update provided by the team, the Winnipeg Jets have shared concerning news regarding their head coach, Rick Bowness. The team revealed that Bowness’s wife, Judy Bowness, suffered a seizure on Sunday night and is presently hospitalized, undergoing extensive testing and medical care.

In light of this situation, Rick Bowness has made the difficult decision to take a temporary leave of absence from his coaching responsibilities with the Jets. Stepping into the role of interim head coach during Bowness’s absence will be Scott Arniel.

Arniel, a seasoned veteran in the hockey world at 61 years old, brings a wealth of experience to the position. Arniel previously served as the head coach of the AHL’s Manitoba Moose from 2006 to 2010 and had a tenure with the Columbus Blue Jackets from 2010 to 2012. Additionally, he has been a part of various NHL coaching staff since 2002, including roles with the Buffalo Sabres, New York Rangers, Washington Capitals, and now, the Jets.

Under Bowness’s leadership in their second season, the Jets have kicked off the campaign with a record of 2 wins, 3 losses, and 0 draws. In 2022-23, they finished with a record of 46 wins, 33 losses, and 3 draws. Despite their regular-season success, the Jets faced a tough challenge in the playoffs, ultimately being defeated by the Vegas Golden Knights in the first round.

The Jets organization has issued a statement requesting privacy for the Bowness family during this challenging time. As the team rallies together to support their coach and his family, the entire hockey community extends its thoughts and well-wishes to Judy Bowness for a swift and full recovery. We hear at NHL Trade Talk want to share that our thoughts go out to Judy and Rick Bowness.
