Just prior to their game against the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday, the Boston Bruins got unfortunate news. Forward David Pastrnak wasn’t going to be on the ice with the team and the organization updated fans just prior to game time that he the star winger had been ruled “unfit to play”.
This was a major blow for the Bruins who already weren’t playing well in the seeding rounds and barely escaped Game 1 with a win after a blown call by the official. Now that Pastrnak was going to miss Game 2 of the best-of-seven series, and possibly more, this might have been the opening the Hurricanes (who swept the New York Rangers in the play-ins) needed.
It is not clear when or how Pastrnak got hutr but he didn’t practice on Monday so this could be something that been nagging the sniper. And, after news of his absence a video surfaced of the Game 1 goal celebration in overtime where he certainly tweaked something raising his hands in the area and skating over to the scrum. It appears that whatever he was dealing with, he aggravated in that moment.
There is no official word on Pastrnak’s condition and whether he will miss any future games beyond Game 2. The Bruins did lose that game with him out of the lineup.
Anders Bjork jumped up to Pastrnak’s spot and Karson Kuhlman played on the third line.
