Bruins Goaltender Rask Says He’s Thinking Retirement

NBC Sports has a story that originally comes out of a conversation Boston Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask had with Kevin Paul Dupont of the Boston Globe. The two spoke about his current playing situation in Boston, how he feels and what his plans for the future might be.

The most interesting notes from their conversation was the hint that Rask might play out the final year of his current contract and then retire from hockey.

Rask went into detail about how helpful it was this season having veteran goaltender Jaroslav Halak join the team. He was able to lighten his load and stay at the top of his game. When the question was asked if he felt too big a schedule was problematic, the conversation turned to retirement talk.

Rask said about calling it quits, “I have one year left in the contract, so we’ll see if I even play.” He was then asked if he might go to Europe where he could finish out his hockey career on a less hectic schedule, he said, “No, no, I wouldn’t”,

Rask basically said, when he retires from the NHL, that will be it for him. It would be about “Family time.”

Should he call it quits, he’ll go down as one of the best Bruins’ goaltenders in the history of the franchise.
