Stamkos Trade Status Update as Predators Explore Options
The Nashville Predators are looking at the trade market and eyeing a big name, but does that necessarily mean Steven Stamkos is involved?
According to Marco D’Amico of RG.org, the Nashville Predators are actively navigating the NHL trade market as the Holiday Roster Freeze approaches. That said, rumors of Steven Stamkos potentially being out there in trade discussions are not accurate. He might not be happy with the way things have gone since arriving in Nashville, but the team and the player aren’t looking to part ways as of yet.
The Predators are looking to address their lineup needs. According to sources, the team prioritizes adding a middle-six center and a top-four defenseman to bolster their roster. A team to watch in connection to Nashville might be the Buffalo Sabres.
One intriguing name reportedly on Nashville’s radar is Sabres forward Dylan Cozens. Despite a slow start to the season, with just 13 points (6 goals, 7 assists) in 31 games, Cozens’ natural ability at center and his previous track record of solid production could be appealing. Reports are out there that teams are calling about Cozens and it would take a big offer to land him. That could be why Stamkos’ name has come up, even if the two players are not linked in any pending deal.
Instead, Cozens might be an option to complement Nashville’s offseason additions of Stamkos and Jonathan Marchessault.
Stamkos Is Not on the Trade Market
While there has been speculation about Stamkos’ fit with the Predators, insiders have confirmed that neither the team nor the player is exploring a chance to backtrack on their deal this offseason. Stamkos, who signed a four-year, $32 million contract on July 1, remains a key part of the team’s plans.
Through 30 games, the two-time Stanley Cup Champion has recorded 16 points (8 goals, 8 assists). Marchessault also signed to a big deal (five years) and has contributed 18 points (7 goals, 11 assists) in 30 games.
