Canucks Exploring a Surprising Evander Kane Trade to Oilers?
Insider Rick Dhaliwal has heard that the Vancouver Canucks offered Evander Kane back to the Edmonton Oilers.
Despite being bitter Pacific Division rivals, the Vancouver Canucks and Edmonton Oilers haven’t been all that shy about connecting on trades over the years.
The most recent of them all was, of course, this summer’s deal that sent Evander Kane to his hometown team in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.
While we’re only just over halfway through Kane’s first season as Canuck, the state of the franchise has shifted dramatically in that time, and as a result, his name is right back out there in trade discussions.
That said, moving him will be easier said than done, and according to insider Rick Dhaliwal, they’ve already attempted sending him back to Edmonton to no avail.
“Couple of people told me the Canucks tried to peddle him back to Edmonton, and I haven’t confirmed that.. Why wouldn’t you if you’re desperate? Why wouldn’t you? But my Edmonton source has told me that ship has sailed for the Oilers. That ship has sailed,”
The 34-year-old Kane is a pending UFA in the fourth and final season of the four-year, $20.5 million contract he originally signed with the Oilers back in 2022. He’s recorded just 20 points (six goals, 14 assists) through his first 42 games in Vancouver.
Could the Oilers Change Their Mind On Evander Kane?
While Dhaliwal makes it clear that the Oilers are out on a reunion with Kane, it’s fair to wonder whether that stance could change ahead of the March 6th trade deadline.
It feels unlikely, though if Vancouver is willing to eat some salary or take back a contract of substance, then Edmonton could do worse than re-acquiring a rental veteran power forward with whom they’re familiar.

That said, Kane has had his fair share of off-the-ice issues throughout his career, and there’s a reason GM Stan Bowman was willing to let him go for next to nothing in the offseason.
Never say never, but unless the circumstances perfectly align over the next two months, we won’t see Kane back in an Oilers uniform, at least this season.
