In today’s NHL Trade Talk Recap (Jan. 19), trade rumors are heating up as the Winnipeg Jets eye a “perfect” fit. However, that deal seems unlikely. The Oilers are exploring several trade options after recent meetings, while the Canucks and Rangers were close to a J.T. Miller trade, but it fell apart.

The Blackhawks are considering moving Seth Jones, with at least three destinations possible. Meanwhile, the Oilers waived a depth center and demoted a defenseman to address salary cap issues. The Maple Leafs beat the Canadiens 7-3 win, showing strengths and flaws.

Conor Garland’s play against Connor McDavid has sparked debate on whether it was brilliant or cheating. Both McDavid and Tyler Myers are likely facing suspensions after recent altercations.

Did Conor Garland’s Move to Neutralize McDavid Cross the Line?

At the end of last night’s nail-biter between the Vancouver Canucks and the Edmonton Oilers, Conor Garland took a blatant interference penalty with seconds left on the clock. McDavid lost it and cross-checked Garland. The Canucks Tyler Myers also got involved. Was Garland’s tackle of McDavid just a clever play or something more egregious?

Landing Spots for the Blackhawks’ Defenseman Seth Jones

There’s speculation that the Chicago Blackhawks will move Seth Jones at the trade deadline. If so, could he return to Columbus to rekindle his past success? Would Vancouver trade Elias Pettersson or J.T. Miller for Jones? Or will Ottawa’s playoff push make Seth Jones a valuable trade target?

Oilers Have List of Potential Trade Targets

The Oilers landed John Klingberg, but they’ve also got a Plan B if someone becomes available or Klingberg doesn’t work out as hoped. To make room for Klinberg, the Oilers placed Derek Ryan on waivers and sent Josh Brown down to the AHL.

Meanwhile, the team is awaiting news on Connor McDavid’s hearing and the hope is that, if suspended, it’s short-term. McDavid is unlikely to play against Alex Ovechkin on Tuesday, but will he miss the rematch against the Canucks a couple of days later? What about Conor Garland? Should something have been done about his holding McDavid before the Oilers’ captain lost his temper?

Canucks Almost Trade Miller to Rangers: Who Else Was Involved?

Today, Elliotte Friedman reported that the Rangers and the Canucks almost pulled off a trade. If J.T. Miller was moving to New York, who would have been headed to Vancouver? The answer might have been Alexis Lafrenière and/or Braden Schneider. However, Mika Zibanejad was not brought up in the talks. Are these trade talks now over?
