NHL Trade Talk Morning Roundup: Canadiens, Flames & Canucks
NHL Trade Talk Morning Roundup (Jan 26), Canadiens Dobes finally loses in OT, Flames stay hot against Wild, Canucks stop Capitals streak.
Welcome to today’s NHL Trade Talk Morning Roundup (January 26). Each morning, we’ll bring you three key NHL stories. Here, you can stay updated on the latest team wins and losses, trade talk, and player news from around the NHL. In today’s roundup, the Montreal Canadiens hung in there but lost during overtime to the New Jersey Devils. The Calgary Flames stayed hot to beat the Minnesota Wild on the road, and the Vancouver Canucks finally won a game. They handed the Capitals their first regulation loss of the new year.
Jack Hughes’ OT Goal Lifts Devils Past Canadiens 4-3
In a game where the Montreal Canadiens kept coming back, they finally lost when Jack Hughes scored the OT winner as his New Jersey Devils beat the Habs 4-3. Jesper Bratt added a goal and assist as the Devils won their second straight. Montreal’s young goalie, Jakub Dobes, recorded 40 saves but suffered his first NHL loss. He has a 5-0-1 record with a 1.93 GAA and a .933 save percentage.
Flames Hold Off Wild, Win 5-4 Despite Late Wild Push
Although the Minnesota Wild’s Marco Rossi put up three assists in the game, he couldn’t stop the Calgary Flames from taking home a win by the score of 5-4. The Wild made a game of it, but the Flames hung on to win their sixth of the last eight games. Andrei Kuzmenko scored twice to help lead the Flames.
Dustin Wolf put up his 26th career win and moved within one of tying Dan Vladar (27) for the second-most by a Flames rookie goaltender. Mike Vernon won 39 games as a rookie to top the list.

Quinn Hughes Leads Canucks Past Capitals 2-1 Ending Streak
Just when you think Quinn Hughes can’t do it all for the Vancouver Canucks, it seems he can. He scored twice last night as his Canucks beat the Washington Capitals 2-1. Goalie Kevin Lankinen stopped 32 shots, and Vancouver handed the Capitals their first regulation loss of the new year.
How good has Hughes been? Last night was Hughes’ 99th career multiple-point game. That’s one short of becoming the 13th skater and first defenseman to record 100 multiple-point games for Vancouver.
