NHL Trade Talk Morning Roundup (Feb 4), Senators beat Predators, Capitals goalies lead team, Oilers McDavid will shine at 4-Nations Face-Off
Welcome to today’s NHL Trade Talk Morning Roundup (February 3). Each morning, we’ll bring you three key NHL stories. Here, you can stay updated on the latest team wins and losses, trade talk, and player news from around the NHL.
In today’s roundup, the Ottawa Senators pushed past the struggling Nashville Predators by 5-2 in the NHL’s only game last night. Why are the Washington Capitals having such a stunning season? Look no further than its goalies. Finally, one highlight of the 4 Nations Face-Off should be the amazing play of Canadian superstar Connor McDavid. How has he fared in international hockey thus far during his career?
Senators Power Past Predators for Fifth Straight Win, 5-2
Adam Gaudette and David Perron each scored a goal and added an assist as the Ottawa Senators beat the Nashville Predators by a score of 5-2. In the games, the Senators’ Shane Pinto extended his point streak with the game-winning goal in the third period. Filip Forsberg led the Predators with a goal and assist in the loss.
In other good news for the Senators, goalie Linus Ullmark (who will play for Sweden in the 4 Nations Face-Off) served as the backup. He’s missed 18 games because of a back injury.
Logan Thompson Leads Capitals’ Dominant Goaltending
If anyone is wondering why the Washington Capitals are arguably (with the Winnipeg Jets) the best team in hockey, look no further than its goalies. Newcomer Logan Thompson leads the NHL with a .943 midrange save percentage this season. Thompson’s strong play and Alex Ovechkin‘s scoring power drive the Capitals’ success. With backup Charlie Lindgren, Washington ranks second in the NHL in team save percentage. It’s a strong team and a tribute to the coaching staff that Ovechkin’s chase of Wayne Gretzky‘s record isn’t distracting from winning games.
Connor McDavid Will Lead Canada at 4 Nations Face-Off
As most hockey fans know, Connor McDavid will play for Canada at the 4 Nations Face-Off. McDavid has a history of success in international hockey. He won gold at the World Juniors and the World Championship with Team Canada. He captained Team North America at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey. Finally, McDavid’s playmaking skills were evident with 12 assists at the 2018 World Championship. While the 4 Nations Face-Off will feature a host of other great players, fans should watch to see what McDavid accomplishes in this fascinating venue.
