Maple Leafs Get Bad News on Stolarz Injury, Requires Procedure
Anthony Stolarz’s injury news is not good, as the goaltender will require a procedure and be out for 4-6 weeks for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
After thinking the injury would be day to day, Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz will miss 4-6 weeks after an MRI revealed a small issue in his knee. The Hockey News’ David Alter was the first to break the story, which several sources have since confirmed.
Leafs general manager Brad Treliving explained the situation, describing the issue as a “pebble” or loose body that needs to be removed through a minor procedure. It’s definitely not what the Maple Leafs or Stolarz wanted to hear, but fortunately for the goaltender, the MRI revealed no structural damage.

The timeline is a tough break for the 30-year-old netminder, who was expected to return to action this weekend. However, addressing the issue now prevents further complications during the critical stretch later in the season.
It wasn’t clear what took Stolarz from a game when he didn’t return after the first period. Speculation was that past injuries had potentially raised a concern, but it wasn’t anything big. This is a bit bigger than expected.
Stolarz Has Been Outstanding for the Maple Leafs
Stolarz, a reliable depth option for Toronto, has provided steady goaltending when called upon, and his absence will test the Maple Leafs’ goalie depth.
This development is a setback for Toronto, but catching the issue early is a silver lining. The Maple Leafs will now look to their remaining goaltenders to fill the void until Stolarz’s return.
