Blues Lose Snuggerud to Wrist Surgery, Toropchenko Also Sidelined
The Blues lose Jimmy Snuggerud to wrist surgery and Alexey Toropchenko to a home accident. The latest injury update.
The St. Louis Blues were hit with a tough double dose of injury news on Monday, headlined by the loss of promising forward Jimmy Snuggerud. The team announced that the 21-year-old suffered a left-wrist injury that will require surgery, placing him on injured reserve and keeping him out for at least six weeks.
Snuggerud has been a key piece for the Blues this season, appearing in all 26 games and registering 11 points (five goals, six assists). Since breaking into the NHL late last year, he’s produced 15 points in 33 career games and steadily carved out a meaningful role. Losing him for an extended stretch is a significant blow to a Blues lineup, one that is already struggling and sitting well outside the wild card race in the Western Conference.

To help fill the gap, St. Louis recalled forward Aleksanteri Kaskimaki from AHL Springfield. The 2022 third-round pick has seven points in 16 games this season and continues to develop into a reliable two-way option. Andy Strickland writes, “Tough injury news involving Snuggerud and Torpochenko this morning. But excited to see Kaskimaki make his NHL debut. Hasn’t received a ton of pub, but the organization internally has been very excited about his potential. Very versatile player who plays a pro game.”
Toropchenko Out Week-to-Week After Home Accident
In addition to Snuggerud’s surgery, the Blues announced forward Alexey Toropchenko is out week-to-week after sustaining scalding burns to his legs in a home accident. The 26-year-old had two points in 17 games this season. This is the second NHL player to miss time this season with a weird accident. Eetu Luostarinen of the Florida Panthers sustained burns while barbecuing.
With two forwards sidelined, the Blues’ depth will be tested as they try to stay competitive in a tight Central Division race.
