Will Oilers Put in Waiver Claim to Get Former Center Back?
Noah Philp is back on waivers, will the Edmonton Oilers put in a claim?
Noah Philp is back on waivers, this time placed there by the Carolina Hurricanes. The Edmonton Oilers lost Philp to waivers last month, and while many fans in Edmonton were upset the team would risk losing a solid depth center, others wondered if he might eventually be back. The Hurricanes’ placing Philp on waivers makes that possible.
The Oilers have options at center. Curtis Lazar has played well enough not to lose a spot on the main roster. Josh Samanski was called up and looks good in his first couple of games.
Still, Edmonton has the opportunity to reclaim the 27-year-old if they choose and there’s a solid chance they’ll do so.

Since leaving the Oilers, Philp has appeared in just two games with Carolina, recording no points while adding six hits. That comes after a more productive stretch in Edmonton earlier this season, where he posted two goals, one assist, and 24 hits in 15 games before being claimed.
With the Oilers still looking for added forward depth, bringing Philp back could be a logical option. However, there is no guarantee he plays anywhere but in Bakersfield. It will be worth watching to see whether Edmonton decides to make a move.
Overall, Philp has played 30 games across two seasons with the Oilers, totaling two goals, three assists, five points, and 39 hits.
