Which Forwards are Fighting for Three Spots on Team Canada? Insider Reveals

Team Canada has some difficult roster decisions to make, particularly at forward with so many options for just three spots.

With the December 31st deadline to finalize Olympic rosters rapidly approaching, Team Canada is expected to narrow things down over the coming days. General manager Doug Armstrong and company want to have about 70% of players in pen, with the final 30% to be the focus moving forward, as several decisions may come right down to the wire.

While we can assume who will fall in the category as a lock, there are more than a handful of forwards whose performance this season has put themselves in the mix for those that are up for grabs.

TSN hockey insider Pierre LeBrun recently revealed who is a part of the group in serious contention for three spots on Team Canada, and let’s just say it’s not going to be easy for the management group to make these final cuts.

LeBrun said:

“I think there’s a group of players that weren’t at 4 Nations that remain heavily in the conversation, but there’s only two or three spots available from that 4 Nations roster. That includes Macklin Celebrini, Bo Horvat, Tom Wilson, Nick Suzuki, Wyatt Johnston, Mark Scheifele, and Connor Bedard, of course. To me, only three of that list make the Olympic roster.”

All seven of these forwards have been tremendous thus far in 2025-26, each making their case to represent Canada on the international stage in February.

What Other Forwards Could Team Canada Consider?

While the players LeBrun mentioned are certainly possibilities for Team Canada, the list might not stop there.

Strathclair, Manitoba, native Morgan Geekie has burst onto the scene with 32 points (22 goals, 10 assists) in 30 games this season, behind only Nathan MacKinnon in the NHL goal-scoring race, which Armstrong has admittedly taken notice of.

We also can’t forget about Zach Hyman, who has plenty of big game experience and chemistry with Connor McDavid, which has been a factor in the past with Chris Kunitz tagging in alongside Sidney Crosby.

It’s an extremely difficult task to put together a 25-man roster with so much Canadian talent across the NHL, so no matter what happens, immensely talented players are going to be left off the roster.
