Viral Clip Shows a Side of Coach Oilers Fans Never Expected
Watch Kris Knoblauch in a surprising clip as he challenges the Edmonton Oilers with an unexpected outburst in the locker room.
A surprising video surfaced showing Kris Knoblauch — the usually composed head coach of the Edmonton Oilers — unleashing a pointed verbal tirade on his players in the locker room. It’s the kind of reaction that stands in stark contrast to Knoblauch’s reputation for calm, measured leadership. Some fans are suggesting this video makes them feel better, knowing that the coach has it in him to get on top of his players, which includes two of the best players in the NHL.
The clip comes from the latest Oilers+ Drop episode. Meaning, the organization isn’t hiding the fact he snapped on the team. It didn’t necessarily sound like it was something natural or that he was comfortable doing, but he did it.
Knoblauch can be heard confronting his group after a rough stretch of play, yelling, “…no chance of winning against anyf—–body!” It adds, “On the attack, we’re [expletive] standing still here and wer’re [expletive] looking to dipsy-doodle, make a {expletive] little pass…” “If we can’t clean up that we can’t clean up anything!”
The tone is unlike anything any fans have ever heard from Knoblauch, who is known for being reserved and often criticized for not holding his players accountable and laying down the hammer.
Knoblauch has long been known for his even-keeled approach. His coaching style has been described as patient, supportive, and analytical. That’s why this footage is resonating — it flips the script.
This Oilers Group Needs This Sometimes
For a team built around elite players and big expectations, this moment matters. It has to be challenging knowing where to draw a line with a couple of the best players in the world and when not to go overboard. For Knoblauch, when he loses his cool, it has more impact simply because it rarely happens. The good news for some fans is that they know it can. He’s got a long leash, but he, too, can snap.

The Bigger Picture
Knoblauch is trying different things to get his team to respond. The start of the 2025-26 season hasn’t exactly gone the way the team would have hoped. They have a winning record, but still don’t believe they’ve played a game this season where they were the best time on the ice for all 60 minutes.
Edmonton pulled out an overtime win against the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday, and they get another look Thursday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
