A New Deal For Flyers Has Fans Watching Trevor Zegras Closely
Christian Dvorak’s new contract has sparked questions about Trevor Zegras’ future with the Flyers as his next deal comes into view.
A recent signing by the Philadelphia Flyers may have tipped their hand on imminent plans for star forward Trevor Zegras. Christian Dvorak’s contract extension wasn’t a huge suprise, but the terms of the deal might have been a tad alarming. Some feel it was an overpay, but to the Flyers, it might have been the start of keeping a vital duo together.
The Dvorak contract sparked a bigger question in Philadelphia: Does this deal make a Trevor Zegras extension inevitable?
If the early signs and comments from Zegras is any indication, the answer is trending toward yes.
Zegras Talked About Dvorak’s New Deal: The Two Are Quite Close
Zegras, a pending RFA acquired from the Anaheim Ducks, has looked comfortable since arriving in Philly and sounded very much like someone planning to stick around. Speaking after Dvorak’s extension became official, Zegras was thrilled about his linemate’s decision to commit long-term.

“It’s cool to see somebody his age decide that this is the place he wants to be and feels like we can win,” Zegras said. When asked if he felt the same way, his response was immediate. “Absolutely. Absolutely.”
That alone doesn’t sign a contract, but it adds to a growing body of evidence. Zegras even served as the witness when Dvorak finalized the deal late Sunday night, a small moment that speaks to the chemistry — and comfort — developing within the group.
Would the Flyers Be Willing to Pay Big Bucks for a Dvorak and Zegras Duo?
Dvorak’s extension itself is polarizing. He’s approaching 30, has never surpassed 38 points in a season, and received a long-term commitment that many believe exceeds his market value. That said, if he’s got chemistry with Zegras and the two will be tied at the hip for several seasons, that context matters. It hints at how aggressively the Flyers may be willing to get to keep the two together.
According to The Athletic’s Kevin Kurz, Zegras’ extension is already viewed internally as “inevitable.” Kurz suggests a deal in the $9 million range over five years makes sense — meaning the Flyers are looking at nearly $15 million per season for the pair.
The Flyers clearly believe they’re building something. Dvorak’s deal may not be universally loved, but if it helps secure Zegras long term, it may ultimately be remembered as the first domino to fall.
