Big Trade Brewing Between Jets and Kraken Involving Shane Wright?
Is there a potential blockbuster brewing between the Jets and Kraken that would involve Shane Wright?
The Winnipeg Jets and Seattle Kraken could be emerging as potential trade partners as speculation continues to grow around former fourth-overall pick Shane Wright.
According to David Pagnotta, speaking with Jeff Marek on The Sheet, the Jets have shown interest in Wright, with Cole Perfetti potentially surfacing in early discussions. While nothing appears imminent, the connection has added intrigue given both teams’ needs and timelines.
Wright, 22, has seven goals and 11 assists in 51 games this season and is believed to be searching for a consistent top-six role. Elliotte Friedman confirmed on 32 Thoughts that Seattle is legitimately open to exploring trade options involving the young centre, pushing back on the idea that the rumors are agent-driven.
“The Shane Wright stuff, that he’s available and out there — that’s real,” Friedman said. He linked the New York Rangers to Wright, wondering if there might be anything there with Alexis Lafrienier or Artemi Panarin. Friedman just isn’t sure that Panarin would consider Seattle.
For the Kraken, the appeal would be acquiring a more established NHL contributor, while Winnipeg could see Wright as a long-term solution down the middle. Friedman reported that the Kraken want a comparable young player. Still, the idea of moving Perfetti — who has shown strong offensive instincts and steady growth — would likely require a significant addition coming back to the Jets. Perfetti is struggling this season with only four goals in 37 games.

Wright’s profile remains polarizing. Despite just 69 points in 146 NHL games across four seasons, his draft pedigree continues to drive interest around the league. Once viewed as a likely first overall pick before sliding to fourth in 2022, Wright remains a young centre with upside.
If discussions progress, this is the type of framework that could evolve into something bigger — but only if the price makes sense for both sides. Jets fans might balk at the idea of Perfetti going the other way. Kraken fans don’t want to move Wright without a significant return.
