Insider Reveals Three Teams Showing Interest in Andrew Mangiapane
Find out why the Mangiapane trade talk has intensified despite his struggling performance this season in the NHL.
Andrew Mangiapane’s name is coming up again more frequently in trade speculation, but according to NHL insider Pierre LeBrun, moving the struggling winger may be more complicated than expected. The Oilers have been trying to trade Mangiapane, but talk quieted when injuries struck, and the forward was back in the lineup. Scratched again versus the Minnesota Wild on Saturday, talking is heating up again.
Speaking on Sportsnet Central on Jan. 28, LeBrun explained that Mangiapane’s difficult season has significantly impacted his current trade value. Rather than teams lining up to acquire the former 35-goal scorer, LeBrun suggested some clubs are taking a far more cautious stance.
“The problem is it’s been such a tough season for him,” LeBrun said. “I think some teams have said, ‘Well, are you giving us a pick to take him?’”
Mangiapane’s stock has fallen compared to previous years, when he was viewed as a reliable middle-six forward with finishing ability and a bit of sandpaper in his game. This season, he started strong, but production has been almost nonexistent, and his confidence appears to have taken a hit.
Are There Still Teams Interested in Mangiapane?
Despite the setback, LeBrun noted that some teams are still conducting due diligence. Among those he wondered about were the Winnipeg Jets, Ottawa Senators, and St. Louis Blues — three clubs in different competitive windows but all potentially looking to add depth scoring or a bounce-back candidate.

Mangiapane’s contract also factors into the equation, as acquiring teams must weigh both his cap hit and the hope that a change of scenery could help reignite his game.
For now, no deal appears imminent. But with the trade deadline approaching and multiple teams at least kicking tires, Mangiapane remains a player to watch. Whether he becomes a buy-low opportunity or part of a bigger cap-related trade remains to be seen.
The Oilers are ready to move on. Mangiapane appears eager to start anew. Which team believes he can help them, or, at the very least, can act as a means to an end to conduct other business?
