Teams Keep Calling About Elias Pettersson Trade — How Close Is It?
A recent report noted that teams are still calling about Elias Pettersson and kicking tires on a trade; is anything close?
There isn’t much detail yet, but a new report has surfaced that while names like Keifer Sherwood, Conor Galrand, and Evander Kane are more often being discussed as trade pieces out of Vancouver, Elias Pettersson’s name clearly isn’t going away on the trade market.
According to Patrick Johnston of The Province, teams are still checking in on the Vancouver Canucks star, even if a deal feels far from imminent.
He writes:
“Have heard from a good source that teams are still calling about Pettersson, though as another source said, what are other teams really going to offer?”

Trade talk has surrounded Pettersson for a couple of seasons, and with the Canucks seemingly selling several of their high-end pieces, it’s not a shock to hear his name has popped up again. Pettersson is one of Vancouver’s biggest stars, but he’s been inconsistent, and not the player the Canucks thought they were getting when they signed him to a massive long-term deal worth more than $92 million. He’s got nine goals and 23 points in 31 games.
What teams are open to taking that on remains unclear. Then the idea of putting a package together for the player and his deal murkies the waters even more. At the same time, the Canucks have little incentive to move him unless a truly significant offer materializes. Interest around the league is expected — elite centers rarely become available — but curiosity doesn’t always translate into serious trade talks.
Trade Talk will Continue to Surround the Canucks
For now, this appears to be more background noise than momentum. Teams are doing their due diligence, while Vancouver holds firm. Until someone presents an offer that changes the conversation, Pettersson’s status looks unchanged, even as speculation continues to simmer.
The Fourth Period’s David Pagnotta says, and Jeff Marek of The Sheet agreed, that Vancouver is listening to almost everyone, even if they said publicly that only veteran players on expiring deals are what is available.
