Swiss Team Provides Unfortunate Update on Kevin Fiala Injury
Read the latest Fiala injury update: Kevin Fiala is out for the rest of the Olympic tournament due to a serious injury.
The Kevin Fiala injury update is not good. According to the Swiss Ice Hockey PR account and their official team website, “Kevin Fiala was injured in the second group game against Canada and will miss the rest of the Olympic tournament.”

Fiala was down on the ice with a serious injury late in the third period of Switzerland’s loss to Team Canada. The score was 5-1 with under three minutes left in the 3rd. Fiala got tangled up with Tom Wilson, who while trying to slow up on a hit, both fell in what wasn’t at all a malicious play. Fiala went for a reverse hit when he saw Wilson coming. Both lost their balance as Wilson tried to avoid the hit and fell.
Fiala’s leg bent underneath Wilson and he was unable to leave the ice on his own. A stretcher was brought out to help Fiala out of the rink.
“It’s the Olympic Games and I feel terrible that he may not be able to keep playing,” Wilson said. “Just sending his family and him my best. You never want to see a guy go down — in a tournament like this, especially. Sucks for the country, for their team. Just wishing him a quick recovery.”

Switzerland coach Patrick Fischer said after the game, “We haven’t seen him yet. I think he went to the hospital. Obviously, it doesn’t look very good. Tough, tough, tough moment for Kevin and the whole team, obviously.” The update that came back afterward was that Fiala was done and won’t be back in any further Olympic competition. Whether he’s able to play games for the Kings coming out of the Olympic break remains to be seen.
Fiala’s injury wasn’t the only one for Team Switzerland. Andrea Glauser left the game with a concussion after taking a big hit from Canada’s Connor McDavid.
