Svechnikov Open to Trade, Teams Calling Hurricanes Need Monster Offer
Dive into the Svechnikov trade possibility with the Hurricanes and his recent openness to a potential move from the team.
According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, Carolina Hurricanes forward Andrei Svechnikov had told the Hurricanes he would be open to a trade earlier this season, and word got out. Teams checked in on what it would take to acquire him in a deal and were told it would require a monster offer.
For now, things have calmed, and Svechnikov is happy. Still, Friedman noted this is a situation to watch.
Svechnikov was unhappy when the season began. He was struggling offensively and was on the fourth line for the Hurricanes, which, for an offensive star, was a major blow to the ego. He told the organization he would be open to moving on if the team felt the need to trade him. Word leaked, and teams started calling.

The Hurricanes’ response to teams who kicked tires was that he was still a cornerstone piece and they had no desire to move him. Since then, he’s been back on the top line with Seth Jarvis and Sebastian Aho. He’s got 12 points in 13 game,s and things have quieted on the trade front.
Friedman did note that if things went south and he began to struggle again, this would be a storyline to keep an eye on.
