Sherwood Trade Update: 2 Teams Added, But Yet to Contact Canucks

Kiefer Sherwood trade interest remains high, as two more teams enter the rumor mill, but have yet to contact the Canucks.

The trade watch continues when it comes to Vancouver Canucks forward Kiefer Sherwood. Currently, the most popular name in rumors, there is no shortage of interest in the inexpensive, gritty winger who can score in bunches. A move is expected well ahead of the NHL Trade Deadline, but the Canucks are taking their time. Given the increased interest in the player, it makes sense.

Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic reports there is “lots of interest in Sherwood.” He adds:

“More than a week after the Vancouver Canucks let teams know they were ready to listen on their pending unrestricted free agents, they’re getting lots of interest on Kiefer Sherwood, as one would expect given his cheap $1.5 million cap hit, solid production and style of play.”

Who Is Kicking Tires on a Sherwood Trade With the Canucks?

Several teams have already been linked to Sherwood trade talks. Among them, the Minnesota Wild are an early frontrunner. LeBrun adds, “The Montreal Canadiens and Dallas Stars have also kicked tires.”

As for teams that are interested, but have yet to officially reach out to the Canucks, the Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers are two known clubs eyeing the Sherwood situation.

LeBrun noted, “Given their injuries, the Boston Bruins would make sense, but I’m told the Bruins haven’t engaged yet. An obvious connection to make is the Philadelphia Flyers, former Canucks coach Rick Tocchet’s team, but I’m told they haven’t talked to Vancouver at this point. They feel pretty stacked a wing and don’t see a fit.”
