At the time, he noted, “I’m gonna tell you right now, it’s going to be in the fours.” He added, “If you’re the Oilers, you want to keep it to a term of four years.” What he explained was that what he wasn’t saying was that the deal was being worked on, imminent, or would be announced before the end of the season.

That’s good news for fans who understand there is absolutely no reason to give him a deal now.

The Oilers Need To See Roslovic In the Playoffs

Giving Roslovic any kind of deal before he shows what he can do when the games matter most is key when it comes to any extension talk. He is a high-event, high-risk forward who can score goals, but has a history of not being a coach’s choice when two-way, responsible playoff hockey is important.

Roslovic is an intriguing fit for the Oilers because of his speed, skill, and ability to produce offense in bursts, especially in a middle-six role. He has been inconsistent throughout his career, often cooling off after hot streaks, and he was even scratched in last year by the Carolina Hurricanes. His recent production dip raises more concerns, and his defensive reliability remains questionable.

With the Oilers tight against the cap, committing too early could create long-term problems. Waiting until after the playoffs may be the smarter move to see if he delivers when it matters most.
