Ridly Greig Hitting His Stride at Exactly the Right Time

Ridly Greig has been heating up for the Senators—peaking at the perfect time against a Devils team giving up goals.

Ridly Greig might not be the first name that pops into your head when you think of the Ottawa Senators tonight against the New Jersey Devils. That said, perhaps it should be. Recently, Greig has been finding his game. And, fortunately for the Senators, it’s come at just the right time.

The team needs a jolt of energy, and he’s just the guy to bring it. He’s a player on the rise.

Greig’s Season Started Slowly for the Senators

Greig’s season got off to a pretty slow start. In the first three months, he scored fewer than 15 points. Those aren’t exactly the kind of numbers that make you stand up and notice. But January has been a different story.

This month, in 15 games, Greig has put up 12 points—five goals, seven assists—and he’s throwing about two shots on net every night. Over the last eight games alone, he’s scored nine points and had two nights where he was all over the scoresheet. Not bad for a guy who was quiet for much of the season. The guy is finding his touch.

Give His Senators Teammates Some Credit for Greig’s Rise

Part of what’s helped is his linemates. Greig is skating on Ottawa’s second line with Brady Tkachuk, who himself has been hot with 12 points in the past eight games. Dylan Cozens is also not far behind with nine. That trio is clicking in all the right ways, and Greig is proving he can both complement and stand out. Toss in a role on the second power-play unit, and he’s in prime positions to turn chances into points.

It’s not just about the stats on the scoresheet either. Advanced metrics tell you Greig is creating serious danger every time he’s on the ice. Greig’s been building something this month: 12 points in 15 games, five goals and seven assists, while taking a couple of shots a night. He’s also added nine points in his past eight games, with two multi-point games included. He’s starting to carry momentum.

The Senators Might Be Hitting the Devils at a Good Time

And the matchup? It couldn’t be much better for him. The Devils have allowed at least four goals in three of their last four games, making them the perfect team for a forward riding momentum to make a statement. Greig is hitting his stride just as Ottawa could use a little magic, and all the signs say he’s capable of producing a big night.

So keep an eye on him. Ridly Greig may not have been the first name you’d think of at the start of the season, but he’s proving he’s a forward to watch — fast, sneaky, and peaking at exactly the right time.
