Rasmus Andersson Rumors Grow as D-Man Ups Trade Value
Rasmus Andersson’s scoring has boosted his trade value while contract talks with the Flames remain stalled. What’s his future in Calgary?
Rasmus Andersson is currently playing some of the best hockey this season — and maybe hitting highs in his career. His increased production is creating more trade conversation, and he’s commented on where things stand regarding his future with the team.
The Flames blueliner has exploded offensively with 14 points in his last 10 games, greater production than some of the top forwards in the NHL. His stock is rising fast, and rival teams are watching.
The story continues to be that Andersson and the Flames are “not close” on an extension. The belief is that the 29-year-old defenseman wants something in the range of eight years at $8 million or more, and the Flames have concerns about that type of commitment. Both sides have to be wondering what’s best and if this new level of production is something that can be expected over the long haul.
Andersson Denies Having Made Any Kind of Decision
Andersson pushed back on recent reports questioning whether he knows if he’s leaving or staying. Some outlets have reported he’d made up his mind.
“How would they know that?” Andersson said on Friday. “I talked to my agent before the season started and then we haven’t talked. I’ve come to the point where I just laugh at the things people say online.”

Head coach Ryan Huska praised Andersson for keeping his focus and not letting the noise ruin his season. In fact, he might be making the most of his situation, a key motivator for some players on an expiring deal. “He knows he’s at the end of his contract… but he hasn’t let it impact him. He’s come to the rink every day and done his job.”
Andersson noted, “I try to control what I can control… enjoy being around the guys and not worry about what’s going to happen tomorrow.”
