Rasmus Andersson Just Drew a Line for Flames Amid Outside Noise
Rasmus Andersson discusses the ongoing trade rumors and shares his take on where things are at with the Calgary Flames.
Eric Francis started the conversation on Saturday’s After Hours with Rasmus Andersson by talking about all of the trade rumors that are out there. “Contract-wise, there’s been a lot said about it. You’ve said the insiders are getting it all wrong… You’re the ultimate Rasmus Andersson insider. Give us where it stands right now.”
Andersson joked, “Well, it’s a trade freeze right now, so I can breathe easy.”
He then got into a more serious response to the question. “I mean, honestly, what is there to say, really? We don’t know anything. Nothing has changed from the summer until now.”
He added that there’s a lot of “information” out there, but he finds it humorous to see what people think they know. “You know, Elliotte likes to put it out there that I go back and forth, but I haven’t really thought about anything except playing well for the Flames. So far, so good.” He went on.
“I mean, sometimes I just laugh when I read that I’m indecisive with my decisions and stuff like that. It’s humorous, man. The older I get, the more I just laugh at what people say on the outside. They can write it as much as they want. I know, and my team knows, what’s really going on, and we keep it pretty close.”
Does He Want to Stay A Calgary Flame?
When asked if he should have the final say, he wants to remain with the Flames, Andersson hinted that the extension is about terms and finances. More specifically, the Flames haven’t met his.

“As for my choice? “Obviously, I love every second of playing for the Flames. I’ve been in the organization for almost 11 years, and I’ve loved every second of it. But let’s just leave it at this — it takes two to tango.”
It’s unclear what Andersson is asking for on an extension, but his last comments indicate that he’s told the team where he’s at, and they’ve yet to find the appetite to meet him there. It seems likely that he will be trade,d and he gets that. The NHL is a business, and regardless of how long he’s been with the Flames organization, if they aren’t prepared to dance with him on the extension ask, they will move him to get assets back while his value is high.
