“Raft of Transactions” Coming as D-Man Returns for Oilers
The Oilers transaction scene heats up with Alec Regula’s activation. Discover what other moves might follow soon.
The Edmonton Oilers have activated defenseman Alec Regula from injured reserve. The team announced the roster change and, as a result, Mark Spector of Sportsnet is among the analysts who believe additional roster moves will follow.
Spector writes, “Regula finally coming off of I.R. With [Zach] Hyman and [Mattias] Janmark fixing to return, should be a raft of transactions over the next week or so.”
Rumblings in recent days have suggested the Oilers might be looking for a soft landing for defenseman Troy Stecher. His name has been linked in trade talks, and if Edmonton is moving on from the popular veteran, they want to make sure he winds up somewhere that suits him. Meanwhile, Frank Seravalli wondered if the Oilers might shop Ty Emberson around. Suggesting he’s the better defenseman, there might also be a better return from NHL teams if the recently signed blueliner were made available.
Meanwhile, Hyman’s return will mean a few changes to the Oilers’ forward group. Not expected to return until Saturday or Monday night, Edmonton has some time, but not a lot. Decisions on depth guys and rookies will be coming. That includes Ike Howard, David Tomasek, Matt Savoie, Curtis Lazar and maybe Janmark himself.

Whether those players are shopped in trades, placed on waivers, or simply sent to the AHL because they are waiver-exempt, management will need to get below the 23-man roster limit and under the salary cap ceiling.
“I think Mattias Janmark is one [player who could be traded],” Seravalli explained during Tuesday’s edition of Flames Talk.
