One Last Push for Crosby and Ovechkin? Enter Quinn Hughes
The Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals have been linked to Quinn Hughes, perhaps to make one final push for their legends.
Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin have been the two faces of the NHL for more than 20 years now, and as Ovie recently said, they saved the league with their spectacular play immediately upon arriving.
It couldn’t have worked out any better for the league; the 2004 and 2005 first-overall picks landed on division rivals, leading to two decades of incredible battles between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals, which, of course, included some legendary playoff series.
Unfortunately, time has flown by, and the two all-time greats are now on the back half of the back nine of their careers. We don’t know when it’s going to end for either Crosby or Ovechkin, but no matter the age, they continue to play and produce among the best in the world.
Because of that, it’s incumbent upon their general managers to do all they can to try and win while they’re still around, and that might just be why we’ve heard both Pittsburgh and Washington linked to Quinn Hughes in recent days.
The reunion of the three brothers on the New Jersey Devils is the number one storyline in the Hughes sweepstakes, but for hockey fans, what might be an even better story is the superstar defenseman potentially teaming up with Sid or Ovi for one last crack at the Stanley Cup.
Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin Deserve It
For all they’ve done not only for the Penguins and Capitals, but the game of hockey as a whole, Crosby and Ovechkin have more than earned the right for management to help them make a final push for a Stanley Cup.

They may not be in the same position as franchises, with Washington appearing to be a legit contender and Pittsburgh a pleasant surprise in 2025-26. That being said, both teams are currently in a playoff spot, and a move for a Norris Trophy-winning defenseman will only improve their chances in the here and now.
Just imagine how it would look seeing Hughes feed Ovechkin for one-timers on the power play, or threading passes around the net for Crosby to redirect in on one knee with his patented move.
There’s no doubt it’s a trade that would come with plenty of risk since he might just end up leaving for New Jersey in a year and a half anyway. But when you have legends of this ilk still going at such a high level, you owe it to them, even if it means some pain later on down the road, because there’s nothing you can do to thank them enough for what they’ve done for these respective franchises.
