Oilers Offer Positive Update on Zach Hyman’s Return
Zach Hyman is on track for his return to the Oilers. Find out how his comeback will impact the team’s performance.
Edmonton Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch says he’s hopeful Zach Hyman can make his return in the first week of November — as early as Nov. 1st. Speaking after the Oilers’ practice on Thursday, Knoblauch noted that Hyman is upbeat and in good spirits, practicing with the team and inching closer and closer to a return to games.
Hyman suffered a wrist injury during Game 4 of the Western Conference Final against the Dallas Stars. He collided with Mason Marchment in the neutral zone and never returned to playoff action. Hyman fractured and damaged ligaments in his wrist during the playoffs last season, for which he underwent surgery.
Hyman’s return could boost the Oilers’ struggling offence. With only 18 goals through seven games and Connor McDavid just getting his first of the season, Hyman’s presence adds another scoring threat that might help Edmonton regain its form as a Pacific Division contender.

McDavid said ahead of Thursday night’s game versus the Montreal Canadiens, “The whole thing just seems a little bit off right now. I thought we created a lot in the first two games, but it went dry on the road. We need to get it back, and tonight presents a good opportunity.” It’s clear McDavid is missing his regular winger, and while Matt Savoie will get a look Thursday, having Hyman back in a few days will be big.
