Winger Drops as Oilers Falling Down the Trade Urgency Chart
An Andrew Mangiapane trade that once seemed imminent is way down on the trop 25 trade chart for our outlet.
According to The Score’s recent list of the Top 25 names available ahead of the NHL Trade Deadline, the Edmonton Oilers are dropping down the list. Among players who could be moved, Edmonton has only one name: Andrew Mangiapane.
Mangiapane ranks 22nd out of 25 names, and they write:
“The Mangiapane-Oilers experiment has been a complete failure. Despite prominent usage early on, the former 35-goal scorer hasn’t found his footing in Edmonton and is now a consistent scratch. On one hand, the market for his services won’t be robust. On the other, the Oilers’ asking price won’t be high.”
The article’s comments are mostly correct. However, Mangiapane could rank even further down the list given the recent rash of injuries the Oilers have been dealing with. Kasperi Kapanen is out, and Leon Draisaitl (not injured) is dealing with a personal matter. As a result, Mangiapane is back in on the regular, actually scoring a goal the other night.
Expect the Oilers To Keep Lines Open on Mangiapane Trade
Still, the Oilers would like to move on from his $3.6-million cap hit through 2026-27. He’s got a no-trade clause, but reports are he’s willing to be flexible with it. If he can find an opportunity to play more and in an elevated role, word is he’ll accept the trade.

All that said, a deal that was once believed to be on cusp of happening –with teams like the Winnipeg Jets and Anaheim Ducks rumored as landing spots — now no longer feels imminent. Mangiapane is still likely to be moved, as are other Oilers. However, recent news around the NHL, with teams like the New York Rangers and Vancouver Canucks, has put their players near the top of the list, and the Oilers have fallen.
It’s helps a little when the team is playing better hockey, which the Oilers have been.
