Oilers Lose Key Forward For About a Week

The Edmonton Oilers will be without Ryan Nugent-Hopkins for at least a week after the veteran forward suffered an undisclosed injury.

According to head coach Kris Knoblauch, the Edmonton Oilers have lost Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (undisclosed) from their lineup. He will not play Monday night versus the Columbus Blue Jackets, and he is expected to be out for about a week.

Nugent-Hopkins was not on the ice Sunday. When asked why, it was being called a mainetance day. Clearly, it is something more serious than that.

The loss is a blow for Edmonton, who are already struggling to find consistency after a rough outing against the Colorado Avalanche. Nugent-Hopkins, 32, remains a key two-way piece of the Oilers’ top six, contributing both on the power play and penalty kill. He’s registered 16 points (5 goals, 11 assists) through 16 games this season.

In his absence, Knoblauch is expected to shuffle his lines again.

In other lineup notes, Mattias Janmark is set to make his season debut, Curtis Lazar comes in for David Tomasek, and Stuart Skinner starts after being pulled from Saturday’s game against the Colorado Avalanche.
