Oilers Injury Update: Frederic, Jones, Walman, Clattenburg

Oilers Injury Update: Jake Walman, Connor Clattenburg, Kasperi Kapanen, Noah Philp out, while Max Jones comes in. Trent Frederic is all good.

The Edmonton Oilers offered an injury update following Wednesday’s practice, where Trent Frederic left the practice after taking a puck to the face. On Thursday morning, coach Kris Knoblauch reported that Frederic was doing OK and would play versus the Detroit Red Wings.

“Ya, I saw him today. He got the 14 stitches, but he’s good, and he’ll play… and yeah, he’ll probably have a nice little souvenir from it,” said Knoblauch. Frederic took a puck to the side of the face, which left blood on the ice as the Oilers finished Wednesday’s skate. Frederic got help from the trainers, but was able to skate off on his own.

Injury Update on Connor Clattenburg

Connor Clattenburg is still not ready to return for the Oilers, although he has been around practice. He has not skated. Reports indicate swelling under the eye is keeping him off the ice. Apparently, physical exertion and sweating can make the swelling worse, which, because it’s underneath the skin, poses a risk.

Oilers Call Up Max Jones and Put Walman, Clattenburg on IR

The Oilers released a statement on Thursday that forward Max Jones has been recalled from the Bakersfield Condors of the AHL, while Clattenburg has been placed on injured reserve. Defenseman Jake Walman has gone on LTIR, delaying his return to the ice even further.

Walman continues to deal with complications from a blocked shot, which is believed to have caused a bone bruise. The timeline for a return is unclear, but head coach Kris Knoblauch believed it would be at least a couple of additional weeks.

Jones was acquired as part of the trade that brought Trent Frederic to Edmonton.

As for the sum of the Oilers’ current injuries: Kasperi Kapanen (lower body, LTIR); Jake Walman (lower body, LTIR); Jack Roslovic (undisclosed, IR), Connor Clattenburg (eye, IR), Noah Philp (upper body, LTIR).
