Oilers Confirmed to Have Interest in Jarry, But Snag Holding Up Trade

Elliotte Friedman has reported that the Edmonton Oilers have confirmed trade interest in Tristan Jarry, but no deal is done because of a snag.

Elliote Friedman reported during Saturday’s Headlines report that the Edmonton Oilers do have interest in Tristan Jarry of the Pittsburgh Penguins. However, he called the deal complicated, noting that the Penguins are not interested in retaining salary and the Oilers are not interested in trading Stuart Skinner to make the deal work.

There was a report earlier this week that the Oilers had traded for Jarry, which is clearly inaccurate. However, Friedman’s report that there is interest adds another wrinkle to Edmonton’s public goaltending situation. Friedman reports that if the Oilers can pull it off, they would like to pair Jarry with Skinner, making them the tandem in Edmonton.

Friedman also cautioned that making the money work for the Oilers is a challenge. If the Penguins won’t retain, Edmonton would have to move out other salary in the trade or in a separate transaction with another team. That’s much easier said than done.

For now, there is nothing imminent on the Jarry-to-Edmonton front. That said, there is confirmed interest from the Oilers, which is a fascinating development.
