Oilers Activate Jarry, Walman Amid Several Roster Moves

The Edmonton Oilers get two key players back Tuesday—what does it mean for the roster moving forward?

The Edmonton Oilers will be getting some reinforcements ahead of Tuesday night’s clash in Nashville against the Predators on the second night of a back-to-back.

Tristan Jarry and Jake Walman have both been activated off injured reserve and are expected to be available, while, in turn, Adam Henrique has been placed on LTIR, and Connor Ingram has been moved from an emergency recall to a regular recall.

Jarry has been sidelined for almost a month since suffering a lower-body injury in Boston back on December 18, while Walman makes his long-awaited return after a nearly two-month absence with a lower-body injury of his own.

Should Jarry get the start on Tuesday, it will mark just his fourth as an Oiler since being acquired in the big trade with the Penguins that sent Stuart Skinner and Brett Kulak to Pittsburgh.

On the other hand, Walman’s return gives Edmonton a chance to finally field a fully healthy top-four on defense, something that has been rare this season. How they look over the coming weeks could heavily influence how aggressive GM Stan Bowman is in adding to the blue line ahead of the deadline.

How Will the Oilers Proceed in Goal?

With their two-time All-Star acquisition back in the fold, the question now is how the Oilers will manage their goaltending situation moving forward.

Edmonton relied heavily on Connor Ingram in Jarry’s absence, and he provided them with exactly what they needed, earning himself a full-time opportunity as the backup for the big club.

That could leave Calvin Pickard—who’s played relatively well in limited action of late—as the odd man out, though for the time being it’s expected that the Oilers keep three goalies around, likely leaning on Jarry and Ingram for the bulk of the workload.

After the Olympic break, they’ll likely be forced into a more difficult decision, which could involve placing Pickard on waivers, though, given the way Ingram has played since being called up, it might have to be done.
