NHL Trade Talk Morning Roundup: Kaprizov on IR, Plus Kings & Leafs
In our NHL Trade Talk Morning Roundup (Jan 2), Wild move Kaprizov to IR, Leafs Ekman-Larsson set to return, Andre Lee Scores First NHL Goal
Welcome to the second NHL Trade Talk Morning Roundup of the New Year (January 2). Over the year, we will bring you three key NHL stories each morning. Stay updated on the latest team performances, trade buzz, and standout player news from around the league. Kirill Kaprizov’s injury is the big story, but here are today’s three key roundup topics.
Kirill Kaprizov Was Placed on Injured Reserve by the Minnesota Wild
Minnesota Wild have placed Kirill Kaprizov on injured reserve due to a lower-body injury. Kaprizov, who has missed the last three games, leads the team with 23 goals and 50 points. Despite his absence, the Wild have won both games without him, including 5-3 over the Nashville Predators.
To fill the roster spot, the Wild have recalled forward Brendan Gaunce and defenseman Carson Lambos from the AHL’s Iowa Wild. Gaunce has contributed 17 points in 22 games with Iowa. Lambos, the Wild’s 2021 first-round pick, could make his NHL debut.
Oliver Ekman-Larsson Set to Return to Maple Leafs Lineup
Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson is expected to rejoin the lineup tomorrow after missing Wednesday’s game due to an illness. He practiced with the team Wednesday, skating on the third pairing with Simon Benoit.
Ekman-Larsson has played 37 games this season, recording one goal and 12 assists. If he is cleared to play, defenseman Conor Timmins will likely be the game’s healthy scratch.

Andre Lee Scores First NHL Goal and Kings Shut Out Devils 3-0
Andre Lee scored his first NHL goal to help the Los Angeles Kings secure a 3-0 win over the New Jersey Devils. Quinton Byfield and Adrian Kempe also scored, and the Kings pushed their home win streak to eight games.
The Devils struggled offensively but got a strong performance from goaltender Jake Allen, who made 21 saves. New Jersey saw a potential tying goal by Timo Meier waived off after a goalie interference challenge. The Kings added Byfield’s third-period goal and Kempe’s empty-netter.
