NHL Trade Talk Morning Roundup: Canucks, Flames, Maple Leafs Win

In our NHL Trade Talk Morning Roundup (Jan 19), Canucks hold on to beat Oilers, Flames Wolf stands tall in goal, Maple Leafs roar back to win

Welcome to today’s NHL Trade Talk Morning Roundup (January 19). Each morning, we will bring you three key NHL stories. Here, you can stay updated on the latest team wins and losses, trade talk, and player news from around the NHL. In today’s roundup, we share news on the results of three all-Canadian games from last night. The Canucks got a much-needed win over the Oilers. The Flames got good goalie play to win on the Jets’ home ice, and the Maple Leafs went into Montreal and came back strong to beat the Canadiens.

Canucks Put Up 3-2 Win Against Oilers on Home Ice

Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes scored two power-play goals to lead his team to a much-needed 3-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers. Thatcher Demko made 13 saves on 15 shots to post the win. With so few shots on the net, it was clear that Vancouver’s defense limited the Oilers’ offensive chances. Leon Draisaitl scored both Oilers’ goals, but Edmonton’s comeback fell short. The game got testy at the end, with the great Connor McDavid delivering a hard cross-check to Conor Garland, and it should be interesting to see what transpires from NHL head offices.

Dustin Wolf Shines with 38 Saves in Flames’ 3-1 Victory Over Jets

Calgary goalie Dustin Wolf made 38 saves to lead his Flames to a 3-1 win over the high-flying Winnipeg Jets. Blake Coleman scored a goal and added two assists in the win. Adam Lowry scored for the Jets, but the Flames were solid defensively to take home the win.

Two Flames players had milestone games. First, defenseman Rasmus Andersson played in his 500th NHL game. Second, forward Ryan Lomberg skated in his 300th NHL game.

Maple Leafs Score Seven Straight to Win 7-3 Over Canadiens

The Toronto Maple Leafs got seven goals from seven different skaters to rally from a 3-0 deficit and beat the Canadiens 7-3 in Montreal. Joseph Woll made 32 saves to hold his team in the game until the goals started to go in.

In the game, Mitch Marner recorded his 122nd multi-assist game. That tied Borje Salming for the most in Maple Leafs history. The game was also only the third time in the past decade that Toronto scored two shorthanded goals in the same game.
