NHL Insider Confirms the 6 Teams Who Made Trade Offers for Quinn Hughes

Which teams are confirmed as clubs that reached out to the Vancouver Canucks about trading for Quinn Hughes before being dealt to Minneota.

At least six NHL franchises were all over the Quinn Hughes trade discussions with the Vancouver Canucks. Some teams were more invested than others, but several organizations, particularly from the Eastern Conference, where it was rumored Hughes wanted to go.

Ultimately, the Minnesota Wild swooped in and landed Hughes with the biggest trade offer.

As per Pierre LeBrun: “Confirmed teams that tried on Quinn Hughes: New Jersey, Detroit, Rangers; and to some degree, Carolina and Buffalo.” This update comes just a few hours after the NHL insider revealed that lots of teams called as Vancouver explored the market thoroughly for Hughes. He noted, “but am told the Canucks got bona fide trade offers from 6 teams for Hughes. As mentioned, NJ among them. But explains the quality of the return from Minnesota.”

New Jersey was reportedly the most serious player in the mix outside of Minnesota. They were rumored to be the team heavily connected to the idea of adding Hughes and putting him with his brothers. It was said that GM Tom Fitzgerald put a pretty solid offer together.

At the end of the day, it wasn’t enough.

“Nobody else came close to it,” said Canucks President Jim Rutherford on the offer the Wild made. Rutherford said Canucks were talking to eastern teams re Quinn Hughes, as per the player’s wishes, but Wild GM Bill Guerin called a week ago and stepped up in a big way to make it known the team was serious.

Ultimately, the package of the Wild’s 1st round pick in the 2026 NHL draft, Marco Rossi, Liam Öhgren and Zeev Buium got it done.

As for the other teams confirmed to have been in discussion, it’s not clear what assets they were willing to send back or what offer was tabled.
