Craig Berube Talks Coaching Status After Freak Off-Ice Gym Accident

Craig Berube discusses his gym accident that left him with stitches. Discover the details behind the mishap, and will he still coach?

Craig Berube says he’ll be behind the bench for the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday night, but he looks like he might be better suited to take a rest day or two. Following a gruesome and freak accident in the gym, the head coach of the Leafs showed off a nasty scar when he spoke to the media.

Berube addressed his shiner and then lifted his hat to show a series of stitches all across the top of his head. He didn’t say what exactly happened in the gym, but joked the other guy looks worse and “there were three of them.” He later clarified, “Just had an accident in the gym yesterday.”

He called it a stupid accident, which he didn’t want to get into any further.

The Maple Leafs will face the Vegas Golden Knights on Friday night. The game is getting a lot of attention because it will be Marner’s homecoming game, his first in Toronto since leaving for Vegas this summer in a trade.

The Maple Leafs have started to play better after a tough start to the season. They are 5-2-3 in their last 10 games.
