Logan Cooley Commits Long-Term to Utah with 8-Year Extension

The Utah Mammoth invested considerable time and money in Logan Cooley with an eight-year, $80 million extension.

The Utah Mammoth have locked up a franchise centerpiece, announcing Wednesday that center Logan Cooley has signed an eight-year, $80 million contract extension carrying a $10 million AAV. As per Pierre LeBrun, “The contract does not include any signing bonus money. It’s heavily front-loaded, but all salary. It’s the third-highest contract coming out of entry-level in NHL history.”

One of the NHL’s bright young teams has committed heavily to one of the league’s bright young players. Cooley, 21, is off to a strong start in the 2025-26 season with eight goals and 12 points in 11 games, leading Utah in goals and sitting among the NHL’s top young scorers. He was named the league’s Second Star of the Week on Oct. 27 after netting the first natural hat trick in franchise history.

“I’m excited to sign an eight-year extension with the Mammoth,” Cooley said. “The atmosphere at the Delta Center is unreal, and Ryan and Ashley Smith have given us every resource to succeed. This is an awesome day for me and my family.”

“Logan is elite in every sense of the word,” said team governor Ryan Smith. “His commitment shows what we’re building here in Utah — a place where players know they can win.”

General manager Bill Armstrong added that Cooley’s signing “cements the foundation of our young core.”

A 2022 third-overall pick by Arizona, Cooley has 121 points in 168 career games and continues to emerge as one of the NHL’s brightest young stars.
