Leon Draisaitl Is Cementing Himself in Oilers’ Franchise History
How good is the Edmonton Oilers Leon Draisaitl? He’s quickly cementing himself in Oilers history. What records has he broken and set?
That Leon Draisaitl of the Edmonton Oilers is an elite player in NHL history is far from an understatement. The current star of the Oilers is making history with his achievements. Recently, he became the fifth player in Oilers’ history to achieve a home point streak of at least 17 games, recording points in each game.
Draisaitl Is Joining NHL Greats with His Records
With all his record-setting, Draisaitl has joined the ranks of legends throughout Oilers’ history, such as Wayne Gretzky, Connor McDavid, Paul Coffey, and Blair MacDonald (who played for the Oilers from 1973 to 1981). Since December 5th, Draisaitl has been dominating the entire NHL. He’s earned points in all but one game over the past 24 games. During that stretch, he has put up 43 points, including 18 goals and 25 assists.
Draisaitl also set a power-play milestone by scoring his 150th career power-play goal. That’s a franchise record for the Oilers. Where does he rank among active players? Only a few are ahead of him. Those players are Alex Ovechkin, Steven Stamkos, Evgeni Malkin, and Sidney Crosby.

The Bottom Line for Draisaitl and the Oilers
Draisaitl’s contributions set new personal records for him. They’ve also helped solidify the Oilers as an NHL powerhouse. Better yet, the good news for the Oilers is that their German star shows no signs of slowing down.
The question is: Can he lead the team one step closer to the Stanley Cup? Last season, the Oilers came close but lost in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final. Can they reach the Final again? And, this time, can they bring home Lord Stanley’s Cup?
If they can, there will be celebrations across Canada. It’s been a long time since a Canadian team has won it all. Even if one isn’t an Oilers fan, when push comes to shove, fans across Canada will join together to hope that, if the Oilers get there, they’ll bring it home.
