Latest NHL Trade Buzz: Canucks, Oilers, Blues
There is plenty of trade buzz around the NHL, so let’s check in on the Canucks, Oilers, and Blues.
The calendar has officially turned to December, so things are starting to get serious, not only when it comes to the NHL standings, but also when it comes to the trade market. We know the Vancouver Canucks are open for business, but who could actually be on the move? The Edmonton Oilers’ search for a goaltender is complicated, and the St. Louis Blues might be willing to do just about anything.
With that in mind, let’s dive into the latest buzz from around the league.
Who Will Move First in Vancouver?
Quinn Hughes is at the forefront of everything, but that’s a discussion for another day, which could be coming sooner than later. Don’t count on any no-movement clauses being waived anytime soon, either, whether that’s Brock Boeser, Jake DeBrusk, Tyler Myers, or Marcus Pettersson.
So who does that leave? Pending UFA, Kiefer Sherwood continues to draw the most chatter, and reports suggest he could be the quickest to go. Meanwhile, veteran forwards Conor Garland and Evander Kane are also in the mix to be moved, though interest in the latter has been minimal.
As is the case with any team, how the coming weeks of games go could determine just how drastic the changes could get in Vancouver.
The Twists and Turns of the Oilers Goalie Search
Goaltending remains the hot topic in Edmonton, and after the search for an upgrade over Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard picked up steam last week, it turns out that might have been overblown.

Rumors about Jordan Binnington and Tristan Jarry were flying, but Elliotte Friedman says that a big move in net still might have to wait until the offseason, much to the chagrin of Oilers fans. Perhaps that leaves the door open for a blockbuster deal to acquire Juuse Saros this summer.
That being said, tensions are rising for Binnington in St. Louis, so you have to assume he’s hearing all of the noise about his future.
Doug Armstrong Wants Change in St. Louis
Speaking of the Blues, it’s been another sluggish start to a season, and this time around, their general manager might not wait for his group to figure things out.
Armstrong is always looking to wheel and deal, and it doesn’t sound like many players are untouchable in St. Louis. Binnington is one of many who have surfaced in the rumor mill, along with Brayden Schenn, Justin Faulk, and Jordan Kyrou, just to name a few.
He may give the Blues a little more runway to find their game, but the leash is getting shorter, so don’t be surprised if Armstrong is the first to pull the trigger on a significant trade.
