Kings Deny Coaching Change, Biggest Name Available Not Being Hired

Uncover the truth behind the Kings coaching change rumors with insights from GM Ken Holland and various sources.

Despite whatever rumors exist in the NHL, the Los Angeles Kings have shot down and confirmed that the team is looking to make a coaching change. Several insider sources confirmed that Kings GM Ken Holland has said there is no truth to the rumors.

TSN’s Pierre LeBrun wrote, “Reached out to Ken Holland regarding today’s speculation of a potential coaching change in L.A. and the Kings GM says “there’s zero truth” to that.” Dennis Berstein tweeted, “Multiple sources: Kings have not been contemplating coaching change, no prospective candidates have been contacted. One source noted prior to back2back L at home this week, Kings had 3 regulation L in last 20.”

As for who the potential candidates are that haven’t been contacted, Pete DeBoer is the popular name being floated. He’s arguably the best coach available. DeBoer is not coming in, at least not yet.

Nick Alberga added, “Furthermore, I asked Pete DeBoer about this, too. He was quick to deny the speculation as well. Despite back to back losses, the Kings have put together a pretty decent 20 game run. They’ve been picking up points.”

Clearly, this is a story to keep an eye on. The rumor came from somewhere and took on some serious steam before Holland addressed it. Oftentimes, where there’s smoke, there’s fire. And, it’s not like Holland is going to admit he’s thinking about a change while his current coach is still employed and running the show.
