Jonathan Quick Shares His Thoughts On End of Game Scrum with Red Wings
Find out what Jonathan Quick had to say about the wild postgame scrum between the Rangers and Red Wings.
Madison Square Garden has not been kind to the New York Rangers this season. The Blueshirts dropped to 1-7-1 on home ice on Sunday night, thanks to a 2-1 loss to the Detroit Red Wings.
It was a frustrating night for the Rangers, who were outshot 42-19, and those frustrations spilled over at the end of the game for Jonathan Quick. The veteran netminder was none too pleased with Mason Appleton for putting the puck into the empty net after the buzzer sounded, starting a full-out scrum between the two teams.
That’s not something you see much of anymore in today’s era of hockey, so everyone was, of course, waiting to hear what Quick had to say about the whole situation postgame.
“Yeah, you guys all saw it. The horn goes a couple seconds and shoots like that, so, you know, I don’t know why they’re surprised. It’s usually the response when something like that happens. So, boys jumped in, did the right thing,” Quick said.
“No, it’s a complete separate issue from the 60 minutes that took place, and then the couple seconds, and then he shoots it right. That’s just that,” Quick added.
The 39-year-old Quick did all he could in the losing effort, stopping 40 of 42 shots, yet it still wasn’t enough to earn his team a point against Detroit.

His record moves to 3-2-0 while sporting a sparkling 1.42 goals-against average, .951 save percentage, and one shutout on the year.
When Do the Rangers and Red Wings Meet Again?
Unfortunately, hockey fans are going to have to wait a while to see New York and Detroit square off again this season.
Having just played twice in November, the Rangers and Red Wings won’t see each other until April 4, a Saturday afternoon tilt at Madison Square Garden.
Fans and players have certainly started to circle this game on their calendar, and it will be fascinating to see whether Quick gets the start in what could turn out to be a crucial affair for two teams competing in a wildcard race.
