J.T. Miller Critical of His Own Play Following Viral Clip

J.T. Miller was trending on Twitter for the wrong reasons on Tuesday night, and he opened up about his struggles.

J.T. Miller is a quarter of the way into his first season as captain of the New York Rangers, and thus far it hasn’t gone as well as he’d have hoped. Not only has the team’s play been extremely inconsistent, but the former Vancouver Canuck has struggled individually, posting just 10 points (four goals, six assists) in 21 games, his worst per-game production since 2014-15.

While Miller is the kind of player who can impact games without being on the scoresheet, his effort during Tuesday night’s 3-2 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights was less than ideal.

Ranger fans and the hockey world were quick to jump on the star forward for said display, though he took some accountability for his play postgame.

Miller said:

“At some point you look in the mirror. Speaking on behalf of myself, I certainly expect a h*** of a lot more production than what I have. I’ve never really gauged my game on points, and I said that a lot. Typically, when I bring my game, the points come. That being said, this year, it seems like nothing’s really going in the net. We’ve got a big enough sample size that 25% of the season is gone, and we’re in a lot of 1-goal games. If I can raise my personal standard and lead the team a little bit better production-wise, I think our outcome in these games are going to change. So it’s making me frustrated. It’s hard to control that…Trust me, it’s on my mind, but same time, come a long way, in a sense, of not getting wrapped up in that s***.”

The 32-year-old is in the third season of the seven-year, $56 million extension he signed with the Canucks back in 2022, prior to the trade to New York.

Miller is Starting To Take Some Heat in New York

After looking the part of a point-per-game top line player upon his return to New York last season, it’s been quite the drop off to start 2025-26 for Miller.

His lack of production in all facets of the game (even strength, power play) has begun to frustrate the fanbase, urging Mike Sullivan to push him down the lineup until he finds his game.

It’s strange to see a guy who’s been one of the more consistently elite players in the league over the last five-plus years go through such a funk.

That being said, there’s still plenty of time left in the season to turn it around, and the Rangers will absolutely need it if they hope to not only make the playoffs but make a run should they get there.
