Islanders Lose Forward Kyle Palmieri Long-Term to Injury
Kyle Palmieri will miss 6–8 months after surgery for a torn ACL, impacting the Islanders’ season significantly.
The New York Islanders will be without forward Kyle Palmieri for the foreseeable future. Palmieri will miss 6–8 months while recovering from surgery to repair a torn ACL.
The team released a statement on Saturday, confirming that Palmieri was injured in a game against the Philadelphia Flyers in a play along the boards. He was able to get up during the play, and as he was skating to the bench, he stole the puck and got an assist on a wild goal. He immediately went to the dressing room.
Palmieri has 18 points (6G, 12A) through 25 games this season. While the injury is unfortunate for the team, it’s also a personal setback for Palmieri, as the injury will end his streak of 223 consecutive games. He was the reigning Islanders ironman.
The Islanders have suffered a second major long-term injury in a week, tightening their cap situation as they prepare to operate in LTIR. With Alexander Romanov and Pierre Engvall already out, replacing Palmieri could push them fully into LTIR, creating future penalties and likely rolling up to $7 million in bonuses into 2026–27.
