Insiders Believe the Blues Are Ready to Move a Star — Is It Kyrou?

The St. Louis Blues are officially “open for business,” and it’s clear that several of their biggest names are being talked about across the NHL. According to multiple insiders — including Frank Seravalli, David Pagnotta, and Elliotte Friedman — the Blues are fielding interest in players like Brayden Schenn, Justin Faulk, Pavel Buchnevich, and especially Jordan Kyrou.

Trade Buzz Building in St. Louis

Seravalli reported that Blues GM Doug Armstrong has “delivered the message to every other team in the league” that they’re ready to make a move. The tone out of St. Louis is clear — if this team doesn’t go on a serious run soon, changes are coming.

Pagnotta backed that up on Hello Hockey, noting that Schenn and Faulk both have 15-team no-trade lists, and that St. Louis isn’t entering a firesale but rather looking to make “strategic” roster changes. Teams have already checked in on Kyrou, who continues to frustrate the organization with inconsistency despite his elite skill and speed.

Jordan Kyrou’s Situation Drawing Eyes

After being a healthy scratch earlier this week, Kyrou responded by scoring a huge goal — a brief reminder of the potential that makes him so intriguing on the trade market. But as Friedman noted on 32 Thoughts, “every time things get tough or someone gets benched, it always seems to be him,” adding that it wouldn’t be shocking if the player himself starts to wonder about his future in St. Louis.

The Seattle Kraken reportedly explored a Kyrou deal at last year’s draft, and they might not be the only ones circling again now that Armstrong is listening. Jeff Marek joked that the one team that could really use Kyrou and his speed is Toronto, but there is no way the Maple Leafs go there with Craig Berube (who used to be Kyrou’s coach) behind the bench.

Friedman noted, “…like a year ago with the cap where it was, I think some teams looked at Kyrou’s numbers and said, ‘I don’t know if I like that deal.’ But now, with the cap where it is, they know he’s locked in, and also the other thing about his contact is the actual cash. He’s cash below cap. I think starting as soon as next year, and then it drops a bit more. I wonder about that, like I wonder if the player would look at this and say there’s something that comes my way, I would consider it.”
