At 33, Tavares averages nearly a point per game, amassing an impressive 448 points in 471 games with the team. This is a notable marker, particularly given the challenges of aging in the NHL. While there have been concerns about his ability to maintain his performance as he gets older, Tavares continues to demonstrate that he can deliver consistently on a nightly basis.

The biggest talking point, of course, will be the cap hit. Pagnotta suggested that Tavares could seek a deal in the $6-7.5 million range per season. Understandably, not all members of Leafs Nation will be thrilled with that figure. However, when you consider what Tavares contributes both on and off the ice, it’s clear why the front office should prioritize locking him up sooner rather than later.
