Insider Shoots Down Oilers and Kings Reunion Trade Rumor

Discover what NHL insider David Pagnotta has to say about the Foegele to Edmonton Oilers trade rumors. Are they real?

NHL insider David Pagnotta recently commented on speculation that the Edmonton Oilers and Los Angeles Kings might get together on a trade that would see Edmonton bring back an old forward. During an interview segment, Pagnotta shot down any realistic chance the Warren Foegele might, once again, be an Oiler.

He noted on Oilersnation Everyday, “I saw something about Warren Foegele, at least on social, with Andrew Mangiapane, I don’t see that being a fit.”

Mark Spector and Jim Matheson were among the Edmonton-based journalists who tossed out the idea. They both floated a one-for-one swap that would send Mangiapane to Los Angeles in exchange for Foegele, giving each a fresh start.

Spector wrote: “Foegele ($3.5 M AAV thru next season) for Mangiapane ($3.6 M AAV thru next season), straight up?”

Warren Foegele Edmonton Oilers contract extension?

It was not a deal that anyone had insider information on. Meaning, their comments didn’t reflect conversations that might have been happening between the Kings and Oilers. And with the recent news that Kevin Fiala is out for the remainder of the season, it’s unclear how the Kings plan to approach the NHL Trade Deadline.

This isn’t to suggest that Foegele is a terrible option for the Oilers. JFresh writes, “Foegele could be an interesting buy-low target… Healthy scratch in LA. Production has crashed but has a 5% on-ice shooting %. Was terrific last season, does a lot of stuff, and still provides great defensive+PK value. Not cost-prohibitive either.”

There is a solid chance that Foegele is moved. Whether it’s the Oilers who inquire remains to be seen. He’s signed only through the summer of 2027 and the Oilers know what he can do as a player.
