Insider Says Rasmus Andersson Trade Could Happen Within 48 Hours

The Calgary Flames could be nearing a Rasmus Andersson trade in the coming days.

The heat on the Rasmus Andersson trade chatter has been turned up a notch—or several—in recent days, and by the sounds of it, we could be on the doorstep of a deal.

Reports from Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, among others, have suggested that both Andersson and the Flames would like to find a resolution before the Olympic break, and according to one Flames insider, it might be coming sooner rather than later.

Radio voice Pat Steinberg revealed on the Flames Talk podcast Tuesday night that an Andersson trade could very well happen in the next 24–48 hours, and even if it doesn’t, it isn’t far off.

Steinberg said:

“I honestly believe that tomorrow would be an ideal time to do it. I’ll be perfectly honest with you, if it were to happen in the next 24-48 hours, it would not surprise me at this point. What I’m hearing, it feels like the volume has been cranked up again in the last 12-24 hours on this thing. It doesn’t mean a deal is imminent, but hearing what you’re hearing from people you talk to around the league, I wonder if we’re moving into a window where it’s not that far off,”

The 29-year-old is in the midst of a bounce-back season offensively, having already racked up 29 points (10 goals, 19 assists) in just 46 games. He’s, of course, a pending UFA in the sixth and final season of the six-year, $27.3 million extension he signed with the Flames back in 2020.

Teams In On Rasmus Andersson

Interest in Andersson remains strong, with nearly every contender imaginable involved in the sweepstakes.

Insider David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period recently mentioned Detroit, Toronto, Dallas, Vegas, Florida, and even Colorado as those poking around on Andersson. Speculation around the Red Wings, in particular, has picked up of late.

Flames GM Craig Conroy isn’t going to settle for anything less than a significant haul in return for his prized trade chip, which could ultimately take some suitors out of the running.

That said, there are still plenty of teams with the assets and cap space to meet the Flames’ demands, so Andersson could be finding himself a new home any day now.
