Injury Update on Matt Savoie At Oilers’ Limited Morning Skate
Matt Savoie injury news: the Oilers rookie left practice early favoring his left leg. Updates on his status are pending.
The Edmonton Oilers held a limited optional skate Friday afternoon at Rogers Place, with just 12 players taking part — and one concerning development. Rookie forward Matt Savoie left the ice early, appearing to favor his left leg.
Daniel Nugent-Bowman of The Athletic asked head coach Kris Knoblauch about any possible updates, and the coach told reporters afterward that he had only just learned of the situation before meeting the media. He said there was no immediate update on Savoie’s status, adding that it was too early to tell whether the issue was significant or something minor.
Savoie was one of several depth players participating in the optional session, skating alongside Zach Hyman, Mattias Janmark, Curtis Lazar, Trent Frederic, Ike Howard, David Tomasek, Noah Philp, Jake Walman, Ty Emberson, Troy Stecher, and Calvin Pickard in net.

The timing is unfortunate for Savoie, who is coming off a memorable moment in Thursday’s 4-3 overtime loss to the New York Rangers. The 20-year-old scored his first NHL goal, a milestone that was somewhat overshadowed by Edmonton’s late collapse in the third period.
For now, the Oilers will await further evaluation before determining Savoie’s availability for upcoming games as they continue their homestand at Rogers Place.
