Injury Setback: Oiler Snaps at Practice Ahead of Imminent Return

Kasperi Kapanen was not a happy camper at practice for the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday. Working his way back from an injury, he left the ice as the Oilers were stretching, slamming his stick on the bench and hitting several other sticks that went everywhere. Ryan Rishaug of TSN noted that Kapanen appeared to hurt himself.
Both Kapanen and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had been staking on their own of late, both also recently joining the team at practices while the Oilers are at home for a few days. He’s looked good, moving quick and seemingly ready for a return Saturday night. That has to be in question now, based on his reaction.

Head coach Kris Knoblauch also noted after practice that Jack Roslovic — who wasn’t on the ice today — is a maybe for Saturday. It’s unlikely the winger will play after missing much of Tuesday’s game before returning in the third period.
Nugent-Hopkins was slotted in the bottom six at practice, but if both Kapanen and Roslovic are unable to play, it seems logical to assume he’ll be moved up to the top line as a winger.
